Mill PCB partially through?
« on: April 14, 2019, 05:33:43 am »
I'm trying to make automatic feeders for PNP using two PCBs as the "walls" of the feeder. I was thinking it would be great to mill into the PCB walls partially to guide the SMT tape. Is it possible to export gerbers and upload to a service like JLCPCB.com so they can automatically mill a certain depth rather than milling all the way through?

I know I can probably get a CNC and do it myself, but was wondering if a service provider can be directed to do it somehow? See attached examples of countersunk PCBs I found online.

They are definitely able to do that: for blind vias pcb manufacturers often prefer control depth drilling than multiple lamination cycles because it is cheaper.  How to code it for a general shape is a different issue.

So is there a way to do this in Eagle where you tell the PCB manufacturer to do controlled depth milling? or countersunk screws?

PCBWay does it. Its called Z milling, but don't know how to specify depth, I guess the area to be milled is just another layer. If you ask them let us know
