MSO5000 Signal generator question

(1/1)

adras:
Hey,

As I want to play around with some 12V PWM fans, I need a 22khz signal to get them running. Luckily the MSO 5000 series has a 2 channel signal generator. But since a lot of things can go wrong when you're playing around with electronics I was afraid I could kill my precious Oscilloscope. The idea is simple, what if I accidentally hook up 12V+GND to the signal generator probe? Will it survive that?

Hope somebody can shed some light on this.

Some ideas:

- use an optocoupler to isolate your signal generator from your fan circuit; here's a discussion with a schematic:

- use a cheap microcontroller to generate the pwm signal
- get one of these:
