I will choose the soldering iron station because I don't do any SMT work. Which one will you choose?

If you need to own only one, its a soldering station.  However, until Dave reviewed the compact, no-nonsense, cheapo hot air workstation by 858D Atten, I didn't think I needed it.  With the 858D I find its easier to reclaim parts and working with SMT much easier.

+1  Same here,  I find it very usefull for many things.  I was able to replace some thru hole hall effect sensors on brushless motor sensor boards without removing the boards from the windings. Just warmed the board and hall with the  smallest tip untill I could pull it out with hemostats and fluxed and installed the new one while the board was still warm.
The 858D I got only needed the case ground mod. the rest of it was ok.

I dont see the point here? Any of them is a separate tool and in electronics you will need eventually both (more soldering iron than air soldering station). They are pretty different things.
Oh, the joy of sending various electronics to silicon heaven
