Need help identifying fried chip.
« on: October 11, 2019, 02:46:38 am »
Hi,

I recently was powering my Akai MPK Mini mkII midi keyboard from an Arduino USB Host shield and anciently supplied to high a voltage and fried a chip inside the keyboard. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me identify the chip so I can order a replacement from DigiKey to repair my keyboard. I have included pictures of the carnage as attachments. I believe the chip has markings that say "62 2".

Thank you,
Rose Peach

This is a TVS diode array. Given the nature of the failure, remove it and see if the reset of the board still works. It is not essential to functionality, it is only there for protection. And it did its job. But it is possible that something else got damaged too.

I agree with ataradov, it looks like diode protection, and the package is marked with a "D1" which is standard for diodes.

I think you have something similar to this - http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/sn65220.pdf

It's not the same package markings, but I think it's the same pinout.

Thank you so much for your help. Could you help identify which package type the chip is? I'm not too familiar with the different names.852446-0

This is SOT-23-6. But again, test the rest of the board before ordering the parts. If it does not work without them removed, it will not help putting them on.

This seem to be dual channel type with lines going through it. So it's unlikely device will work after simply removing it. You would need connect together pins 1-3 and 4-6. Also it seems as if it shorted 5V to GND through itself.

Yes, after a closer looks at the layout, I agree.

Still temporarily bypassing the device for a test might be a good idea.

Or got way more than 5 V on the power lines.
