Need help identifying capacitor and connector.
« on: April 09, 2020, 02:33:26 am »
Hello I'm new here. I imagine this is probably obvious to many of you, but I'm new at this and would appreciate your help. I would like to put this circuit together and looking forward to ordering the necessary parts. The resistors I'm ok with. I have sourced the 2N3704 transistor but the 169B seems to be  more difficult to find . Can anyone offer a suitable replacement. I believe I read somewhere that a 2N3904 would work?  That's what my notes say but don't remember where I got that from. The capacitor I believe is 24nf 250v. Please correct me if I'm wrong . Also does it matter what kind of capacitor I use. I know this thing is 50+ years old but nothing I'm finding looks like this.  I've been trying to piece this together  on my own but thought I would consult with you here to avoid making easy mistakes. One last thing , does that connector have a name? Is it a standard thing that could be found? Thanks for any help you can give me. Looking forward to learning more. Cheers!

It looks to me like the capacitor is red-yellow-black-red, which would be 24pF 250V.
The BC169B is discontinued, but you should be able to find the similar BC239B.
If you do decide to use a 2N3904, note that the pinout is reversed compared to the Siemens transistor.

See https://www.petervis.com/electronics/capacitor/capacitor-colour-code.html

The cap is more likely red red yellow black red, which would be 0.22uF +/-20% 250V.

Thanks for your replies, just what I came here for.  Can anyone help with the 3 prong plug?
