| New hotair soldering station !! |

I finally bought a hotair station, I got a Yihua 858D from ebay and it works great. So far I desoldered some random PCBs I've collected over the last few years from printers/etc. So I have a small collection of random SMD parts for once. I'll have to open it up and check the internals of it, but I'm very pleased. De-soldered some ram chips no problem, now I have to replace a 48 or 64pin micro-controller from a DSO138 scope. I gave up trying with my iron. |

I have to get one of those, desoldering with the iron sucks! JS |

The 858 series is rebranded by many different sellers. I have one as a cheap source of concentrated heat, and while it works acceptably be aware of a couple of things. 1) Crack it open and check your incoming line cord. There are reports of the neutral lead being the switched side, which means the hot side is energizing components 100% of the time... not good. 2) While it's open, check the earth ground coming in on the line cord. Mine was kinda sorta held against a painted surface, definitely not a ground to which I'd trust my life. I sanded the paint away and used a toothed solderable lug to insure a solid safety ground. 3) My 15YO son had the thing turn into a flamethrower while he was working on one of his racing quadracopters. I wasn't there but he said it just suddenly caught fire in his hand, and with the fan blowing behind it he had a nice little flamethrower going. Replacement handpieces are available on eBay for <$15 but required some sleuthing and reverse engineering as the wire colors didn't match between the two wands. Has worked flawlessly since I replaced the handpiece. I'd still keep one on the bench, but just remember you'd not getting what you didn't pay for. |

the next thing would be YIHUA948 day and night desoldering something though hole, like connector or PDIP14 |

i was thinking of getting a yihua station for general desoldering, are there any other best alternative brands or yihua models for a beginner? |
