Just caught this on Twitter...

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Microchip Academic Program YouTube channel.

Might be worth keeping an eye on, particularly if you have an irrational hatred of Arduino.  ;D

I don't think I've yet seen any manufacturer able to build a big audience on Youtube. Seems like none of them have been able to crack it.

I know. Not just youtube, but some companies just totally suck at the various "social media".
I was laughing at Jameco's twitter account today. In 2010 they tweeted a total of 9 times!  LOL

Maybe that would have fixed Atmel's supply problems?

I was laughing at Jameco's twitter account today. In 2010 they tweeted a total of 9 times!  LOL

That just prompted me to look at an instrument manufacturer's tweets I had given up since. 10 tweets in 2009, one in 2010. One tweet was "join us on facebook". Facebook hasn't heard about them.

This reminds me of the Second Life craze. Suddenly everyone needed to be on SL, or you weren't suppose to make a buck in the future. Why.? Because clueless MBAs and marketing idiots said so.

It is the same with social media. Clueless MBAs and marketing idiots who have no idea what to do, but are paid to "do something", pick up a buzzword, start an "initiative", burn through some budget, and fail.

Microchip tried to by them and failed. Yes, Microchip can fail, too.

I'm fairly certain I've been watching videos on this channel from about 4 months ago. Not really "new", unless they just got around to announcing it now.

Beautifully summed up!

Totally true. What's funny is that some "don't get it" in that they never tweet, or post, or whatever, and others "don't get it" by tweeting non-stop. It's like having a babbling 4-year old in the room. Adafruit is in that camp. I like the company, but I'm about to stop following them because the SNR is too low.

EDN and Microchip get it about right.

I've "unfriended" virtually all business/tech from my face book and leave that exclusively for family and (non geek) friends.
I'm either at my bench, here, or on PokerStars.

Thanks for the video link.

As far as the facebook goes, just create a disposible email (hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc.) and mae another facebook account just for non-family / non-friends. Use a real name and post some kind of picture - it doesn't have to be your name or even the name of the person in the picture.

Close to 500 million people do that already  ;D
