Title: New Rigol User Question

Hi Folks, just got my new and first oscilloscope, a Rigol 1054Z.

I've run through the probe compensation for all four channels and noticed that whilst channels 1,2 and 4 stay at a steady 1Khz, channel 3 wavers a little from 1Khz to 998Hz. I've swapped out the probe and done a little testing and it seems to be the channel rather than a faulty probe.

Question is, should I be concerned, is this an issue? I just don't know!

I would say it is normal. that 1 kHz signal is not precisely calibrated, so it is possible that other 3 channels are off, and this one is spot on.

Try moving the trigger level too, see if it makes any difference.

Still, it might be a useful exercise to let the scope warm up for 30 minutes then run the self-cal routine, and then test to see if CH3 settles down and marches in line with its buddies.

Many thanks for the replies chaps, I have done the self calibration today but it's still the same.

I suspect that it doesn't really matter, especially for the simple hobbyist type use I'll be subjecting it to, it's just a bit annoying!

It stays on 1Khz for most of the time and just flashes fleetingly to 998Hz |O so I guess it wouldn't have an important effect on a real life measurement. :-//

Scope frequency measurement is not very accurate no matter what. It is there to give you a rough idea of what the frequency is at a glance, nothing more.
