Siglent SDS1052DL vs Rigol DS1052E
« on: December 04, 2014, 08:28:10 pm »
Ok, so I am looking for a new scope and I am confused in what to look for.
I have looked at some guides but I hope you guys could help me out.

My purpose: Typical hobby scope
-Max frequency up to 1MHz maybe
-Must have FFT
-No need for saving signals/printing them
-Must be able to represent signals accurately at all time ranges (if you know what I mean, not like 3 points/cycle or something)
-Must be 'cheap',
-I live in Canada so it is kind of hard to find deals up here, especially with shipping coming in the way

I am looking at:

Siglent SDS1052DL
http://www.tequipment.net/Siglent/SDS1052DL/Digital-Oscilloscopes/?v=7401

vs Rigol DS1052E.
http://www.tequipment.net/RigolDS1052E.html?OrderItemId=1002249

The only difference I see is that the Siglent has a much smaller memory, do I need this? Does this play a part in representing the wave at say 1s/Div?

The sampling rate on the Rigol is double which is great but are these features worth the extra $50 (I am looking at Telectronics)?

Are there any other good retailers I can look at for prices (I am also looking for a Soldering Station, Hakko FX888 or Weller WES51)?

Thanks.

None of them because they completely suck compared to DS1054Z

Yes, I do know the DS1054Z is the ultimate beginner scope but it's way out of my budget.
For an extra $90, considering I am only going to use this as a hobby scope and probably wont get serious use out of it, I don't think its really worth it. I was actually considering to get a used Tektronix TDS210 or even a really old Analog scope with the cost of around $250.

Since I am coming to the US this winter, I was thinking just slightly raising my budget for a brand new, much better scope (at least one that has FFT) and EEVBlog promotes TElectronics quite well.

Also, I know that you can 'unlock' the Rigol scopes and I do plan to do that.

Hantek DSO5072P $263 @ ebay 70 mhz w/FFT

Siglent = $286 @ ebay

Rigol = $345 @ ebay

Hantek $330 @ ebay (How to software modify a Hantek DSO5062B from 60 mhz to 200 mhz):

If you use the scope for at least a couple of years, those $70 dissolve into nothingness.

I just bought one just because I could not afford a digital storage scope in the states. I have an old time Leader and B&K that I have kept alive since God knows when, but I need to store reading information like I do with my DMM so I bought this scope. Granted it is not a top of the line scope, but the unit I got does work well and has been pretty accurate and tested it with other test equipment on my bench. It was not my first choice, but it was all I could afford on my budget and has served me well so far.

I have had other bad luck with other "Great Deals" from China though. Cheap imitations.

Shipping in price for the DS1054Z is about 440.00 usd with the eevblog discount (Tequipment) to Canada not sure about import fees or taxes.

If you plan on doing micros or buying an analogue scope consider the Rigol, otherwise the I think the Siglent is a fair choice.
