Building stuff straight from a circuit diagram (video)
« on: March 22, 2013, 08:32:46 am »
One of the most useful, but sometimes overlooked, skills in electronics is building something from a schematic diagram.  It sits between buying a kit or stuffing a PC board on the one hand and designing from scratch on the other.

Yet if you have that ability there's a lot more flexibility with what can be built since you're never going to be able to buy a kit for everything you want to do.  Unfortunately it's considered 'too hard' for many.

The video below discusses this and gives a few ideas on where to start.  It uses an RF oscillator with only basic discrete parts as an example.

you have a good voice, decent structuring and volume control,

but i can tell you recorded outside towards dusk as it begins to get very dark towards the mid point, and your posture doesn't look that comfortable to yourself, tilting your neck left, towards the end you correct yourself, but then begin to drift again, this is less to do with the presentation, but it makes you look off place,

my 2 biggest recommendations would be filtering out the background noise on your audio and recording with a tad more light,

other than that its a pretty good video, something beginners can use to skip all the jumbling around of advanced design and hop right into prototyping, i know i have been caught myself with this,

Thanks Rerouter.  You're right - it was a hard race against the fading daylight.  Was also leaning forward which probably wasn't the best speaking posture.

Most bits were recorded several times and getting the best bits in a logical order sometimes meant changing stuff around - hence the varying light and posture.

The next will likely be on block diagrams, assembling oscillators, amplifiers, mixers etc to do various functions. Maybe physically arranged like a kid builds Lego.
