Need help finding connector name and where to get them
« on: March 28, 2017, 05:30:50 am »
hi all,

I am building a 3d printer and also working on a NASA project for my college and I am having major trouble finding the connectors I need for both projects (more so for the 3d printer than the NASA project at the moment).

The first connector is one that is similarly used on arduino boards and stepper motor connectors. they are black casing and vary in the number of connections. I have heard them be called dupont connectors, jumper wire connectors, rcy connectors, and something else i can not remember at the time. I seem to get close to what I am looking for, only for it to turn out to be either some completely different or close but the wrong specifications. What I have on my printer was from a friend and he used 30 gauge wire from a kit off amazon that you can make the connections yourself. It doesn't state what wire gauge you can use with it. Right now I need it for 20 to 22 gauge wire at the moment to run something things like sensors. I just dont know what the real name is and where would be the best place to find it. so any help with this would be greatly appreciated. if you can name a kit and crimper so i can make the connections myself i would appreciate it.

the other connector is similiar to the first but its used with pc fans. its while while the first one was black. it has a locking section on the casing which i know is for computers for aligning them properly for + and - and some lock in for security. It works similiar to the first with pins.

basically I am running a 2.54mm pitch from the arduino mega 2560 and ramps 1.4 board on top. that is the connections i need.

i have attached two pics to help with this. again i just need the proper naming and where i can easily find them because going through distributors is making me dizzy and i just dont know if I'm clicking the right thing. again all this is for connecting stuff to the arduino board and shield.

thanks for your time and help.

The second one looks like the 3-pin version of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berg_connector

Those are both parts mouser and/or digikey carry, I've ordered them in the past.

For the first, I usually go to Pololu for their crimp connector housings and male/female crimp pins.

I agree with the 2nd being Molex KK.
