Ordering Reels
« on: July 31, 2013, 01:10:51 pm »
I need to order some parts for a build that has a bunch of 0805 passives. The BOM for the boards I have lists some thick film resistors that are only available in minimum quantities of 5000. I can just find an alternative part, but working out the reel costs shows they are much cheaper than I would've thought, usually 10-15€ for 5000 resistors. Is getting a couple of reels in common values a terrible idea? Having stock is always nice but I'm a little worried I'll be carrying around these reels for the rest of my life. I don't do any production building right now, just hobbyist stuff and one-offs for work.

A few common values is a good idea, maybe 1k and 10k,  but i wouldnt get more than that

Whats so special about the resistors that makes them only available in reels?

Yeah, I was thinking 1k, 10k, 100k. Maybe 0805 100nF ceramic caps as well.

Nothing special, the P/N was just for parts packaged as a reel. It's not unusable to have a separate P/N for a reel service with some suppliers.
