Oscilloscope question
« on: November 15, 2019, 02:25:16 am »
So my scope (RIGOL) has an auto feature and can read frequency (MHz) if I want to read the frequency coming from an Op Amp or IC can I use the scope for this? Also do I use the 1x/ 10x probe that came with it?

If you mean can an oscilloscope be used to take a signal measurement such as the frequency, yes that is what they are for. Yes you use the probe that comes with your oscilloscope. Just be careful never to connect the ground clip to a live voltage with respect to ground as it will create a short. The limitations of the oscilloscope such as maximum input voltage are outlined in the manual.

Use the 10x setting on the probe unless you are sure the circuit under test can tolerate the higher capacitive load of the 1x setting.
I recommend the W2AEW YouTube channel.
He has a whole series on using oscilloscopes and it is worth every minute, if you want to learn.
