Panel LED low current drive
« on: July 26, 2018, 03:42:12 pm »
Is there simple circuit/chipsets for driving panel LEDs(Low current)??It should have on off control...

Primary aim is to provide consistent illumination for panel mount LEDs

Typically one just uses a resistor. You can get ICs for driving low current LEDs, they are essentially active resistors, I don't recall the part number but it should be easy to find.

What voltage what current, we need more specifics.
I myself use for some 36V led panels with 200-300mA a LM317 as current regulator but on the low side.
That way he only gets 2 or 3V relative to ground.

5mA to 40mA  current panel mount indicator LEDs

In that case:
-resistor
OR
- LM317, the cheap to220 version suffices
In both cases bring the voltage down to about 2-3V more than the Led Vf to minimize the powerloss.
To achieve that use a switch mode voltage regulator such as the cheap ones on Ebay.
On/off control could be a small P-fet switching the voltage to the resistor or lm317.
