PCB electronic components identification
« on: May 23, 2022, 10:13:49 pm »
Hello to everyone.

I tried to identify by googling about the type of the components depicted on the attached image, but no luck.
The aforementioned circuit is a part of smth like a prob head that has a predetermined time of use. More specifically there is a countdown timer which when comes to zero the probe stops working.
I am sure that this is just a commercial trick in order to oblige you to buy (unnecessarily) a new head.
I was wondering if I could "hack it somehow".

Thanks in advance.

No idea what that part is, but I have my doubts it's part of what's doing the count down to stop the probe from working. It's a 3 terminal part so my bet would be a fet or a bjt based on the parts surrounding it in the photo. Although it could in theory be some sort of weird count down ASIC to stop functioning after a set length of time, more or less.

Your wording is very poor as to what it's a part of "circuit is a part of smth like a prob head" a probe head on what, what's the equipment. It's easier to make a bet as to what's causing the shutdown if there's more detail. There's also the possibility that there's a legitimate reason for the probe head to stop after a given time (I'm thinking maybe in a medical device there could be genuine reasons to stop after a given length of operation).

Can't read the name written on U2's body. Is it AA98TM? Or something else?

Thx a lot for your consideration in my issue.

This PCB is a part of a prob or head used for a pretty harmful and completely superficial aesthetic procedure. The worse scenario could be the lose of its effectiveness which in any  case is very easy to be checked and promptly counterbalanced with immediate replacement with a new one.

Thanks once more

It must be AA8OTM or AABOTM.

Thank you.

So my next question (forgive me if it sounds stupid).
Would be possible to read and reprogram this kind of EEPROM?
I have already accomplished a similar procedure on my motherboard's bricked BIOS chip using a CH341A programmer.

Thank you in advance.
