« on: April 19, 2019, 10:41:22 pm »

Hello electronics have always interested me, i picked up a cheap broken pyle gps radio for real cheap, i want to try to fix it, no big deal if i dont im just interested in learning, something to tinker with, the radio doesnt power on but i think i found the problem but i dont know what the parts are or what they do or what caused them to go bad, any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  I dont know what the part is that says IN on it. I can solder and i have a multimeter and such, just trying to learn a new hobby.

The blown part is a diode. It is likely there for reverse polarity protection. But its death may be an indication of something else dead past that. It is impossible to tell without actually looking at the rest of the unit.

It's not IN.  It's 1N and there are more numbers to finish the part number.  I am guessing it's a 1N4002 or close to that.  Very common and cheap part.
