Picking a GPS module
(1/1)
limestone:
I'm about to start a project for a device that tracks speed and location while cycling and I have started looking at GPS modules online and I see there is a huge price gap with many at $60+ AUD but most of the ones on ebay are about $6. As I don't know much about GPS so it's hard for me to work out what's good and what will be useless. The accuracy needs to be about a street width. What kind of things should I look out for when picking a module and are there any recommended good ones?
CJay:
The little U-Blox modules for about £5-6 each are really good but I believe there have been fakes spotted.

YMMV, there are lots on eBay and at $6 each it's probably cheap enough to order one and try it, they should all speak NMEA so as long as you only want the standard sentences any coding you do won't be wasted if the module you buy turns out to be a dud.
