Hi folks,
I just got a PicKit2 and i'm looking for some nice GUI tools to use it with my Mac. Most HOWTOs I found on the web only refer to using the command line Microship tool, or using a Windows in a virtualization tool. Well I don't want to buy (or pirate) Windows just for programming PICs, and i'd really like to take advantage of GUI simplicity.
So I end with few options:
- running Microchip tools with Wine. Not sure the USB HID will properly recognised in Wine applications, but worth trying.
- using some native Mac tools, but doesn't seem to be any (except the Microship command line tool)
- using some Linux Tool and recompile it for Mac
I did a quick search an fond some Linux tools that seems pretty nice:

So before I get in deep trouble (compiling and configuring) i would just like to ask if anyone here is already using PicKit2 on Mac ?
Do you know any better alternatives or nice Mac tool ?

Hi, I have a PicKit2 programmer, and I'm working on a Mac. MPLAB X doesn't recognize the programmer. :( What can I do? :-//
Are there any other IDEs for OSx?

Thanks Will, I also have found a GUI for this commandline IPE. Only I can not read the hex from the PIC with this GUI. Are there also other IDE 's, and why is everything for Windows?

Because PCs are far more prevalent than macs in general and especially in electronics design or other engineering fields.
Its the same reason any company doesn't make a Mac version. They've decided their cost to write the software isn't worth the limited return.

That's no reason, if you have sense for quality and stability and reliability you would never choose for Windows. You better can choose for linux or freebsd. But also there is no software for it.
In this day, it would not be wise if you decision only to choose for one OS as a manufacturer.

Because Macs are out there for people to feel hip and cool but not for engineering. Leave yourself the mac for fun and get a real computer for engineering and coding.

There's nothing wrong with Macs in the engineering department, you just need to partition it for a dual boot setup andinstall Ubuntu Linux in the spare partition. Lots of support and it's free to download.

Thans, it's oké. MPLAB is working with osx and for AVR i use AVRtool's and AVRdude. I only need a solution for my Mojo FPGA.

best way to do this is use vmware fusion for a windows virtual machine
works fine for every usb connected programmers I tried among them:
- pickit3
- cypress psoc eval1 and psoc development kit
- mikroprog (seems to work only with fusion, does not work with parallel or virtualbox)
- ti launchpad
