PSoC - First encounter
« on: July 18, 2015, 04:31:41 pm »
Hi there,

I have just started experimenting with PSoC and have written something about it here: http://www.neve.nu/category/psoc/

So if you wonder how my humble beginnings with PSoC are, have a visit.

all comments are welcome :)

Hi again, just thought to mention that I've written a new tutorial on Psoc kit-59, on hooking up a LCD

Nice,

Did you tried any of their examples yet?

This is the voltmeter and internal chip temperature example on the PSoC4:

The 5LP offers so much more! Like driving a VGA or CGA output:

Keep on having fun with it, myself I have not done yet my own component with Verilog because I didn't have the need to just yet.
But it's in my list of things to learn and get familiar with, but looks simple enough once you know Verilog.

For other component creator videos they are in their channel

What I like about PSoC is that it's very easy to use, but hard to master, meaning that you can get down to the metal if needed and the tools allow you to get as deep as you desire.

Hi,  that's a lot to look at, nice thanks.
Yes I have tried a few of the examples, but I found that yes, they do show off what PSoC can do, but maybe just a little too much at one time, and if you looked at my avr posts I want to write things in an easy going hand holding way.
I know I might bark at the moon by posting it here but I hope for a little help as I am a novice at this and maybe someone here find I have said something wrong or have other comments.
I find a lot of information on these PSoC s but I can relate to others that maybe be put of by the sheer wealth of documentation.
And as I do this I feel like giving back (or forward) to those being put off this cheap Goliat by drowning in doc's

True, little steps are key for everything.

I just wanted to point out that even if this chip is great for simple things, it has a lot of untapped power.

But I concur with you that taking it easy is the best way to keep on untapping the PSoC powers.

They are quite powerful
A small project done with a CY8CKIT-042 board ( see the picture )
Basically a boost controller with peak current limit implemented using only the cypress4 hardware blocks.
There is an external resistor on the Reference_In pin - to act as a I to V converter ( the analog lines do not mind )
other than that, just some de-glitching and edge detectors - the output goes high on every rising edge from the PWM module and will get reset to 0 when Ipk limit is reached

Another software loop reads the led current ( Iled_In ) and provides brightness control.
I'm still trying to debug the CapSense module - it seems unstable ( maybe because i'm using one of the IDACS for another purpose )

And another one is ready, this time a bit more stuff, not quite bells and whistles but it ticks :)
Take a look
