putting good caps in paralell with bad.

I have this dead stabilock SI4011 coms test set that fails a few self tests ,It has some smd electrolytic caps that measure almost open , ie>10 ohm esr ,can i tack new caps in paralell with the bad ones for testing , untill my new caps arrive?.

As a temporary test sure.

In general I think that electrolytic capacitors tend to fail open rather than short, so that is probably OK.

Why bother ?   
If you got new parts anyway, do no take any risks, and remove the old ones.
If those leak, you will have much more work to clean all the mess
Please keep our planet clean
