Question About Connecting GBS-8220 to PC PSU
« on: February 17, 2019, 10:42:25 am »
Hi,

I have an upcoming project which involves transplanting my Amiga 1200 into a new PC style case along with changing from the old Commodore external PSU to an internal PC SFX PSU.

One part of this project is to also try and internalize the GBS-8220 scan doubler so that it runs of the internal PSU as opposed to the mains barrel pin multi transformer I currently use.

According to the manual (here: https://www.mikesarcade.com/estore/datasheets/GBS-8200-booklet.pdf), it does have a 2 pin power connector which accepts 5V 2A, so my idea is to take an old molex power connector I have and to use the 5V pins from that for power.

However I am a noob with things like this and I'm concerned about whether this may be entirely safe and wondering if I should add a resistor or some kind of fuse as a precaution (especially with the GBS-8220 being a 'naked' PCB, although I'll try and isolate it from the case and other components).

Can anyone please provide some advice in regards to this?

Thank you.

I've been looking around, would a better alternative be to buy a circuit regulator? Possibly using 12v if necessary and output at 5v.

just feed 5v into the 2pin plug.

you have a bigger issue though, the amiga will overload the sync input.

Thanks, I used a guide when wiring the RGB connection so there's a resistor running on the sync signal.
