Quick question about shorting jumper pins
« on: January 27, 2019, 12:16:05 pm »
Hey everyone.

I have a 2x6 row of pins and two consecutive pairs need to be jumped like so

II----
II----

I dont have enough jumpers around to accomplish this and it is only needed for one task and then the jumper will be removed.

Since the two jumper pairs are touching each other. Would it be safe to roll up a tiny ball of aluminum foil and put it between those pins to short all 4 out?

or is it risky to not only jump them as pairs? (this is an IDE hard drive)

No, without knowing exactly where those pins go, you can't.

You don't have two jumpers? Do you have one? None?

At any rate, you could make the jumper with a bit of cardboard with aluminum foil glued to the side.

I would not recommend shorting all four pins. Just in case.

You can use a piece of bare copper wire and wrap it a few times around the pins you want to connect while the power is off.

This is a lot easier if you have some spare 0.1" header pins in 2's as a mold.
