Recomendations for learning Verilog
« on: September 07, 2018, 04:16:56 pm »
Hi everybody.

I'm learning verilog by the hard way. i got an altera cyclone iv based board and trying to convert it in the missing storage and control unit of the very first digital reflex camera.

right now i got to talk to the camera by sending commands and it responds well but at the moment of implementing it on a push button it made me realize that i need to learn more before i can start to code something serious.

what you guys recommend me to start reading/testing to learn verilog?

Thanks everybody!

Obviously, you need to first learn digital logic, but I am assuming you know this. After that I'd look at altera's recommended coding styles.

https://people.ece.cornell.edu/land/courses/ece5760/DE1_SOC/HDL_style_qts_qii51007.pdf

Teaches you how to describe basic elements that best work with their synthesizer

After that,

or I should say before that even, look at this

There's also an Altera pdf somewhere that tells you how to implement floating point operations, but I can't seem to find it today.
