A question about oscillators
« on: March 23, 2014, 06:40:20 pm »
Hello. I'm trying to design an audio effects board using a DSP form Analog Devices (ADAU1701), but I'm not sure about the oscillator part. In the datasheet it says

but I'm not sure which one I should buy since I don't really know what they mean by "AT-Cut Parallel Resonator" (link to digikey http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?x=0&y=0&lang=en&site=us&KeyWords=12.288) or if I should do something like this

This second schematic is for the FT2232 that is on the hercules launchpad. I showed it because the oscillator connection in its datasheet is very similar to the one in the datasheet of the ADAU1701. What should I do?

Thanks!

http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/ABM7-12.288MHZ-D2Y-T/535-9837-6-ND/2001708  spec sheet shows AT-Cut

Almost all commonly sold xtals for this freq. are AT-Cut, so almost anything you can buy will work fine, just use the recommended xtal circuit as shown in the AnDev spec sheet

The second circuit to me,   looks almost identical except the case of the crystal is grounded,  usually only needed in rf environments (or noisy &  fast digital)
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.
