Title: Repairing an Amprobe RS-1
Post by: Renegade on February 18, 2016, 03:23:39 am
I've inherited an Amprobe RS-1 clamp meter. It has some sentimental value, so I do not want to destroy it or damage it.

It is currently non-functional. (No pun intended.)

I don't know how to open it up. It could be a dead battery or a blown fuse, which would be simple enough to do... **IF** I knew how to open it up.

I've downloaded the RS-3 PDF manual, but it doesn't help other than a phone number. (I'll call that later probably.)

Here's the Radio Museum page for the RS-3, which is nearly identical to the RS-1 for these purposes. It has pics.

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/amprobe_rs_3rs.html (http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/amprobe_rs_3rs.html)

Does anyone know how to open up one of these units?

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers.

No screws visible? Perhaps under a label?
If not you could try prying around the seam to see if it unclicks.

I also posted on Reddit, and it turns out that there are hex nuts on the back. I couldn't see what they were before due to some obstructions and some stripping. They looked like round bolts (or just round) until I looked with a loupe.

Now I just need to figure out how to unscrew the hex bolts/nuts. I don't have any pliers that thin, or any ratchets thin enough to work.
