Repairs to DC power supplies
« on: July 27, 2023, 03:54:46 am »
Hi all, I'm your newest member and I'm looking for a forum to provide me with guidance and advice to repair power supplies, PCB's etc all geared towards the stage lighting industry. My main repair issues are with LED PAR mainboards and power supplies and also a wide variety of 120VAC ~ DC power supplies used in moving heads etc with varying outputs from 12VDC all the way up to 380VDC. I can use a multimeter to some extent and I have all the necessary tools (hand tools, solder workstation etc) with the exception of an oscilloscope and I have the willingness to learn and with proper guidance I may well be able to resolve some of the issues I am having. Anyway, hello to everyone, thanks for hearing me out and look out for my first post very soon.

Post a topic with a broken PSU (and preferably with some PCB pictures) in the repair section.
Describe what exactly what symptoms the circuit is exhibiting, and we'll continue off from there.
e-Mail? e-Fail.

Most newer PSUs are switch mode (SMPS), so you could look into how they work.
This may be a start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply
Also, high voltages can be fatal.
