rheology modifier for flux paste/gels?

Hi folks,

Does anyone know what the nicest rheology modifier is for the production of flux paste / gels from liquid flux? By "nice", I mean "simplest, cheapest, safest, and most applicable to the purpose of a soldering flux."

Polyamide powder? Hydrogenated castor oil? Fumed silica?
