Title: Rigol DS 1054Z component identification question
Post by: Crambone on September 27, 2020, 12:13:29 am
With my old analog scope I could see what type of component I was looking at such as capacitor would show round or oval. Or a diode would be a right angle....
Is it possible to do with this scope?
I’m  not sure how if it’s possible?

You were probably using a "curve tracer" function that would plot component response to a voltage sweep.

You can't do it with "just" the scope.
But you can use the scope to view the results using a very easy external circuit (called an "octopus").
See Alan's excellent YouTube video on the topic:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwo3pEH7hUE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwo3pEH7hUE)

And another one on how to do it with a function generator + scope:
