Safe to use Lipo battery with this chip ???
« on: May 01, 2014, 12:00:54 pm »
Hi!

Im making a boost converter/charger for my iphone. I found this chip:
http://www.ti.com/product/tps61032

Is this safe to use with LiPo batteries? And do-able?
I read the datasheet, and it seems to be fine. I have also placed a protection diode from the battery up to this chip to be super safe.

Thanks

It's exactly suitable for all common battery types, as per the specs. DON'T waste a diode drop for "protection",
not with a 96% efficient chip !! That's criminal :-) and not necessary. It has UVLO, so all is good.
Hello <tap> <tap> .. is this thing on?

Note that higher rate chargers to work properly with iphones have to have specific voltages applied to the D+ and D- signal lines via voltage dividers before the phone will except higher rate charge. This was an attempt to discourage 3rd parties charges from working, but was soon figured out. The Adafruit site has details as they were first developing their mintyboost product.
