salvaging components from a clothes dryer.
(1/2) > >>
Pirateguy:
so my clothes dryer broke the locking mechanism of the door but is mechanically and electrically intact.
i will be getting a new one and am wondering, besides what must be a fairly beefy motor, what could i salvage from it?

also: any safety concerns i need to address?
schmitt trigger:
Does the board have an electronic or mechanical controller?

If the former, there may be few components, sensors or displays that you could salvage. If the latter, there could be some switches.

The power cord. Here in the US, many times they sell you the power cord separately, and because of the heavy wire, it can be expensive.
Pirateguy:
not sure, haven't looked inside yet.

the thing has been in use recently so i want to check if
there are safety issues like with TVs n stuff first.

sokoloff:
Electric dryer, once unplugged and cooled, is inert and safe.

Gas dryer, once unhooked and gas verified as not leaking, is inert and safe.

Might there be a power supply cap that’s charged? Sure. Is it going to bite you? Not hard enough to worry about.
Brumby:
If it has an electric heating element - you could use that as a high power resistor.  It might not be a convenient shape, though.
