Hi Team,

Our dishwasher has just died. We bought a new one (a Miele):

But just wondering, are there any parts I might find useful in scavenging? - if not now, with my limited abilities, perhaps later on?

I have been getting in the habit of cutting the cords off dead devices for the cable, I will do that. But if anyone can think of anything that might be useful for some projects or builds?

Regards,

IVLNR

The circulating pump is surprisingly powerful. The heating element might make a decent load resistor too.

P.S. There is, of course, the control panel too. Depending on the age, it will have displays, buttons, through hole and SMD parts, maybe a piezo sounder etc. that can be salvaged. I'm not sure how far along you are yet, but at the very least, it will be useful for practising your soldering and desoldering skills without risk of damaging something that you are actually trying to repair.

If you grab the control electronics I find it better to keep the boards intact and pick off parts as needed (stuff you don't keep in stock or run out of). Pretty sure it's a law of nature that anytime something, electronic or otherwise is parted out and the seemingly unnecessary bits tossed they end up being needed and expensive to source later on, or none of it is needed if you go to the trouble of pulling and cataloging everything.

Also grab any solenoid valves for the magnet wire.

+1 for the pump. Lots of fun to be had with that one. How about a fountain? :)

Yep, or they're only needed soon after the parts which were sitting around for years collecting dust finally get thrown out.

If it has electronic control, it must have a PSU. Keep it intact: useful for powering your own devices.

While not useful for electronics, racks may find some use in home. But discard them otherwise: keeping them “just in case” is pointless.

People imagine AI as T1000. What we got so far is glorified T9.

The drain pump is probably worth removing (usually a couple of self-tappers and two hose clips) if it still working. They are common to most dishwashers and washing machines, and fail quite often. I'm not sure of the failure reason, but the rotor seems to get jammed on the shaft rather than having an amount of free play. This results in the rotor oscillating but not turning.
