Sensor studies textbooks
« on: April 01, 2019, 01:12:58 pm »
Hello I've been watching the eevblog for quite sometime now and just wanted to get into the forums. I had been interested in sensor technology(force strain guages, thermocouples, etc) and was wondering if there was any good university textbooks that went into detail on construction, function, and pretty much anything surrounding them. I only have an associates degree in electronics engineering but want to keep learning on my own so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This is an area of my interest and it is a very good question. I guess you can find some general introductory texts but I am thinking that different types of sensors are so specialized and use so different technologies that any one type can be an entire world.

Have a look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_flow_meter
All my posts are made with 100% recycled electrons and bare traces of grey matter.

"Lessons in Industrial Instrumentation" by Tony R. Kuphaldt is a great public domain textbook that covers all aspects of sensors used in instrumentation:
https://www.ibiblio.org/kuphaldt/socratic/sinst/book/liii_2v32.pdf

The main web page has a lot of other info related to instrumentation:

Thank you so much! "Lessons in Industrial Instrumentation" seems like a really good read with a wide range of topics! Should keep me busy for a while!
