Title: Simple Examples of External Trigger
Post by: Electro Fan on September 23, 2020, 07:44:31 pm
Super rookie question/request:

Looking for some typical, popular, relatively simple, useful examples of setting up an external trigger using some combination of a scope and a generator, and/or a bench DMM, and/or a very simple breadboard DUT.  A brief description of the setup/procedure would be very helpful.  Looking for examples that most easily/simply/clearly demonstrate external triggering.  Thanks

Simple enough.

1. Use a signal generator as scope input.  Use a second generator as external trigger.  Adjust the frequencies of the two generators to the same setting and then turn trigger level to get good triggering.  Now you can slightly vary the generator(s) frequency and watch the trace move to the right or left.

2. With only one generator as trigger source, turn up the gain on the scope signal input and look at the mains pickup, 50 or 60 Hz as applicable.  Again, adjust triggering generator frequency to see mains pickup slow and stop and reverse.

There are thousands of other setups that would work.  Use what you have and it won't be difficult.
