SMD Tantalum capacitor or SMD diode, resistor...?!
« on: December 01, 2022, 11:49:29 am »
Hello everyone.
I have a question about the component in the foto.
Is that a Tantalum cap, or a diode, or maybe a resistor...?!
And the values, how can i no them?
They are almost the same...  |O

Thank you

Can you power up the circuit?  If so, what's the voltage across it?

Welcome to EEVBlog.

Welcome to EEVBlog.

This is from a Car ECU... and i can not power the circuit.
I measure it, and the values are from both sides the ones at the foto.1652438-0

Usually there is a lot of ESD protection. It can be TVS diode or something similar.

That's a capacitor. Should be 10V 10uF. If it is not shorted, I doubt there is a problem with it.

I second.

It's obviously a 10uF/10V tantalum electrolytic capacitor.

Thanks for your help.
I have another question.
I send a photo for 2 caps, can i use the one on the left, the Sanyo 10UF 25V, if the other 10V 10UF is not in good use?
One is tantalum, the other is what we call a "normal" electrolyte cap.
I read a lot about this, and many people do this.
I watch, that sometimes the use of tantalum caps is only because of the space, is that true?
Thantas in advance.

Electrically speaking most likely everything would be fine, but I would not use it. This is a car ECU, exposed to high vibrations, possibly high temperatures. Don't underestimate that, do a solid repair, grow good habbits.

It's a tantalum capacitor, 10uF 10V.Keep attention that the white band denotes the positive terminal unlike all other SMD capacitors where the band (usually black) is the negative terminal.
