Soft Latch Power Switch Problem
« on: March 15, 2017, 07:56:08 pm »
Hello,

I am new to electronics, and I have tried to implement Dave's soft latch power switch from #262 into my circuit. I am trying to switch power from a single cell LiPo battery into a boost converter to 5.2V. When I power the circuit, power flows into the boost converter and outputs 5.2V. When I press the switch, power drops, then almost immediately jumps back to 5.2V. I have included my schematic below (the right half is the switch and boost converter, the stuff on the left is for charging and an ADC). I believe the problem is when the circuit is first turned on, the inductor L2 builds up the magnetic field, and when the button is pressed (shorting the base of U5), the power drops, but as the magnetic field of the inductor collapses, current flows back through R9 and into the base of U5, switching the mosfet U4 back on. If I place a diode between R11 and L2, will this problem be solved? I have a loose understanding of inductors, so my analysis could be completely wrong.
