Yes.

Someone skilled enough with a hot air gun can solder anything that can be done with an iron. It's just a lot more difficult than using an iron.

If you have a dead or used pcb and a blower, give it a try, see for yourself how easy or hard it is. Otherwise, better spend it on a solder station.

Yes, but there are easier ways. If you have a Re-Work station with an adjustable temp and pump, you can use a small tip and direct the right amount of heat and airflow in the area you need to extract or solder a through hole point. However, using a solder iron with the appropriate tip will yield better results.

to keep the pedants happy, no, not unless you want to do some major hacking.  The hot air piece element runs at main voltage from memory, while 936 style handles run at lower voltages.  It's hard wired, while handles are socketed.  The temperature sense method may (likely is) different, the calibration and control method for hot air and iron would be most likely totally different...
