Viewing forum on a mobile
« on: October 14, 2020, 09:31:19 pm »
Sorry if there is a better place for this post but it seems like a noob sort of question and I can't see anywhere better.

Until today the forum was being displayed on my Android mobile in a mobile friendly format. This evening it has reverted to showing the full website which means I am constantly zooming in and out and scrolling. How can I force it to go back to the correct mobile view? Thanks Dave

Hey,

I am not sure that this is your exact problem, but you might accidently have enabled the function where your mobile browser forces webpages to be displayed in desktop mode - it happens to me sometimes.

Without knowing which browser or phone you use it might be hard to give an exact solution, but try pressing the three buttons - settings menu - and disable the function "Desktop site".

Hope it helps,

Lary

Hi Larry, unfortunately that doesn't seem to be it. I'd never noticed that button before and it wasn't checked but I tried checking it and refreshing the page then unchecking and refreshing but it has no effect. The browser is Chrome on a Motorola  g(7) power. Thanks for trying though. On the other forums I frequent the layout can be changed by a drop down on the page.

I've had to do this once and I don't want to risk it again but IIRC it involved going to the home page and right at the bottom of the page is a link to go back to the mobile layout.

You can navigate to a website called Amazon, ebay or wallmart. You select a so called "computer". Sometimes it comes with a screen, sometimes you have to buy it separately. You can also buy this other equipment called "laptop" . So you place these items in your shopping cart, and when they arrive, you browse forums from these things, like other responsible adults.

Some people choose not to use a computer or laptop.

Hmm, the plot thickens - just opened an incognito tab and it works fine on that. Tried logging out of the regular tab and that's still faulty but the incognito tab will suffice for the moment. The only inconvenience is that I'll have to log in every time to get it to show which posts are unread.

That's because the website relies on a cookie to decide which "site" to display. You probably could also revert to the default by deleting all cookies of the site, but you would have to login again.

Ah, here's the solution, apparently the link to revert is very hard to see, it's in the "mesh" area:

You are star! Thanks for that. Now I've seen how 'discreet' the link is I don't feel quite so dumb. Many thanks.

I think the issue is the reverse: How to get to the mobile site from the full site.
And yes, there is a link in the footer of the page, but it is incredibly difficult to see:
