Handheld DSO Channel Isolation Question
« on: August 03, 2017, 04:32:31 am »
Quick question guys.

I have a handheld battery powered DSO that does not have isolated Channels. What I want to do is monitor both the AC RMS volt and AC RMS current of a appliance plugged into a 120V outlet at the same time using both channels. One Channel will be used for AC volt and the other will be equipped with a traducer AC Clamp to monitor current. What I would like to know is will this create magic smoke because of different potentials.

If the AC current clamp offers enough isolation rating and has no connection to the AC mains you'll be OK.
Be sure to use the voltage probe on 10X setting or better still get a 100X probe for further safety.

LOL very good memory. ;)

I still have the SHS810 btw. Scope is good multimeter is still crap. Planning on buying some of those Micsig differential probes for it soon.

I been upgrading my gear again lately and am buying fluke brand now. Needed Averaging/Power and Harmonics Measurements capability so i pick up a fluke 289 and 43B recently. I been watching youtube reviews and was wondering how much of the 43B function are incorporated into the 125B
