Title: Ti CD4071B - floating output pins OK?
Post by: [Chrille] on October 05, 2022, 07:05:07 pm
Hi,

I want to use a Ti CD4071B (quad OR-gate) for a project of mine. Is it OK to have floating/not connected output pins? Right now I only use one of the four or gates available on the chip. I browsed the datasheet but I did not find anything written about floating output pins. It did however say that all input pins should be connected to VDD or VSS.

So, what do you guys say? Is it OK to leave the unused outputs floating?

Floating output pins are fine, it's floating input pins you want to avoid.

The outputs never float. They're internally either connected to VDD or VSS, via output transistors.
