I've always admired the Pomona test lead holders like Benta shows - kinda surprised/sorry to hear it isn't working well.

They work well only for short cables with not too small plugs. So I've built a version for my needs with fingers a few centimeters apart to handle all kind of cables. If you put long wires into boxes or drawers velcro-type cable binders are very handy (buy a roll, much cheaper).

At work I've tried to get them to buy the velcro cable binder/tie an have had no luck.    The idea of reusability seems to escape them, instead they see single use nylon ties as the right way to do things.    Some days I just get tired of banging my head against the wall.   There is a lot of IT hardware on the floor that really could use this time of cable tie.

For the frequently use wires, I have installed horizontal metal bar nearby.  Some longer ones are put across the bar, shorter ones are put to the metal disc that stick to the bar.  Magnet disc glueing to tools, etc shall make the metal surfaces in your workshop into useful real estate.

A drawback of nylon ties is the risk of cutting your fingers/hands. Therefore many carriers/telcos enforce a cable management policy to use either velcro or wax string.
