Multiple people put in time to try to help you. I didn't see anyone being rude.

I don't know what you expected.

Let's make this PM public then...

Why would you just lock a post because you deem it to be "double posting" there was a lot of differing pertinent information in there.  I just joined this forum thinking it would be a friendly place to find, and provide assistance to the electronics community.  You could have just merged the 2nd post with the 1st.  You guys are rude, and and very impolite.  I can see the culture around here is quite negative and I will be sure to tell people I know about it to steer clear of this place.  Deleting my account.  Sorry you people are so bitter around here.  Screw you gnif.  stupid kid.

1) Because I deemed it to be double posting, as other members had also made clear in their replies to you.
2) This is a friendly community, locking the thread to encourage you to continue on your original thread is just an act of keeping the forums organised, it was nothing personal and as such you should not take it personally.
3) This software this forum runs does not support merging threads
4) Nobody here was rude to you, you were informed as to how to properly use these forums.
5) Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Edit: User has been banned.

Actually, locking the thread does seem a bit heavy handed, especially on a new forum user.  We've seen far worse not attract any moderation attention.  The first thread was about finding a replacement transformer, the second thread was about rewinding a transformer.  Both logically fit within their respective forum categories (Test Equipment, Repair).

Airing the PM in public as well as the "5) Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." comment are both objectively childish and unprofessional.  You've literally just proved the OP's point for all to see.

I can see why you would have a problem with #5 as childish considering it was a response to the quote below that without a doubt reeks of maturity:

".  I can see the culture around here is quite negative and I will be sure to tell people I know about it to steer clear of this place.  Deleting my account.  Sorry you people are so bitter around here.  Screw you gnif.  stupid kid.  "

Posts mentioning "delete my account" should be getting immediately locked, to avoid everyone and their brother posting responses to opinions of responses, including this one!!!

To be clear, I'm not justifying the OP lashing out.  I'm just pointing out what I pointed out.....

And yes, the moderator probably should have locked this thread already.

Also, they seemed to have a significant similarity, to previously banned accounts.

E.g.    m3vuv and the various aliases they created to try and get round the bans.

Ohhh, yes that definitely puts a different complexion on things! I thought he was a bit very touchy.

EDIT: Actually, the capitalization, punctuation and grammar are too good for m3vuv. I think it might be a coincidence, hard to say.

Is the "similarity" limited to the fact that both posters own(ed) a Tek 453 scope, or did I overlook any connection beyond that? That's not a very compelling link.

But the fact that Douglasfir flew off the handle that easily and actually asked for his account to be shut down resolves this matter anyhow.

Where do I begin?

Fuse number, of fault...

F937

f937

So, a similar or exactly the same section, had the fault.

The same or very similar writing style.

Lots of similar or identical personality traits.

The list goes on and on.

Even the personal attacks against gnif, seem to be repeated.

One example (IIRC, some of the other aliases, had it in for gnif, as well).

Well, look at his 'later' user alias, which perhaps has a writing style, which is more like this one?

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/hair-straigtener-fuse/msg5451296/#msg5451296

Also, it is another example of the 'gnif' connection.

EDIT:
In addition, I think the earlier (older) posts, were done on a mobile phone, hence the poor quality (lack of easy punctuation/spaces on a small mobile phone screen).

But now (presumably), they have fixed or got a new/old PC, with a proper keyboard.  Hence the better quality responses.

Think what you like, the first and only contact I had with the OP was him being condescending, insulting and rude. Furthermore, before I had a chance to even see his PM, let alone reply to it, he had made this thread with the public accusation that there are way too many rude people here and that there was a really negative culture here, demanding his account be deleted.

Nobody was rude to him, nobody discouraged him from using the forum to seek help/assistance, and instead of being civil and discussing the merits of the thread existing and being unlocked, I was directly insulted and attacked for my actions. The OP made a public scene by starting this thread, posting his words simply exposed him as a hypocrite.

I have no time for anybody that lacks enough basic maturity and/or respect to act in a civil manner, and I am more then happy to show them the door.

Edit: Locked, there is no need to discuss this further.
