TL866 programmer in need of maintenance
« on: January 07, 2019, 08:51:28 pm »
Hello all.

I have an old TL866CS EPROM programmer. It gets a lot of use. At this point it will not recognize a chip unless i press down on it with lots of force and lock it in place. Even then i sometimes need to get it in just the right place.

It seems to me the socket is either becoming loose or very dirty. How would anyone recommend fixing this issue? I dont know how these sockets work mechanically, so i'm not sure where to start with trying to fix it.

I have a shelf spare TL866 in  case this one dies but i would like to run it for as long as possible before replacing it. I have already repaired the usb port on it and hope to not give up on it quite yet.

You checked to see if there are any broken solder joints on the ZIF socket or the daughterboard the ZIF socket is mounted on?
