TOP853 EPROM programmer
« on: January 28, 2018, 09:27:01 pm »
I got a old CNC mill with fanuc control system. The program needs editing and I have a guy with fanuc software that can help me do this.  The only problem is that fanuc has made a "EDITING CASETTE" to read out the program from the two chips and into their software. I found one off ebay for $1400 and that's heavy for one time use. I've been looking at this TOP853 programmer. Will it do the job?

The EPROMS are marked "TC57256AD-15" and on this is the list of supported devices on the TOP853. I found a number where the last three  digits are zero that fits mine but I can't figure out what the "256AD" is for. The "-15" in the end of the number is for 150ns access time according to the datasheet.

____EPROM-TOSHIBA
TMM2716-25V, TMM2732-21V, TMM2764-21V, TMM2764A-12.7V, TMM27128-21V, TMM27128A,P27,
TMM27256A,P27, TMM27256AD,P27, TMM27512,P27, TC541000,P27, TC541001,P27, TC571000,P27,

256 is the size. 256Kbit (32KByte).

Do you need to actually program one, or just read it? Because the latter can be done with just about anything including an Arduino, and looking at the datasheet the former is going to be possible with any EPROM programmer that can use the standard algorithm for 27C256 and the like. (Vcc=6V, Vpp=12.5V, 1ms program pulses.)

The TC57256AD-15 has the same pinout as the 27256 even my cheap VP-180 will read it!

This is an EPROM programmer that will do what you want for under £30 and if you only use it once you could stick it on here for sale and get a big chunk of that back.

Here it is with more options at under £35.  I'd give you £25 for it after you've finished with it :)

I have a vp180 and use a virtual machine on two of my macs for the software. When I eventually upgrade the programmer I will make sure it runs on 64bit windows 10.

I should post back that it worked out with the programmer in the first post. Sorry for the late reply :) Got the program read out, changed and uploaded to a new chip that is now sitting in the machine :)
