Transistor substitute for 2SD1138
« on: October 23, 2021, 11:34:16 am »
HI All,

I need to replace 2SD1138 transistors in a GOS-6112  oscillosope.

I can find them in reichelt, but this is not the most easy for me.
At RS components, I do not find 2SD1138 but a possible substitute MJE13007G
with apparently better specs.

What do you think. of this  substitution, is it wise, or should I stick to ASD1138 ?

Thanks

Using a significant larger transistor does not always work. More power often comes with higher capacity. In many circuits it may work, but not always. So one should look a bit more at what part of the circuit the transistor is used. Given that it is a slow transistor I would expect something like a regulator for a higher voltage supply.

Yes, this is a high voltage regulator. The shematics is attached here. p. 20 (power supply), top .

The power supply part should be OK with a more powerfull transistor.
This still leaves the question why the original one failed. Sometimes it may be just bad luck.

With power applications you'll have a much broader choice for substitutions of transistors . It's when you get into much higher frequencies your choices become more limited
Here's really good site for cross referencing BJTs , MOSFETs ,IGBTs and SCRs.    alltransistors
