Trouble identifying component in switch mode power supply
« on: February 14, 2024, 02:50:36 am »
I'm attempting to repair a power adapter for a Macintosh Portable, and can't identify this component, a TO-92 2L with the marking 'N10V':
2015891-0

I can't find any datasheets. The marking on the PCB is 'PS', which I've never seen before and haven't found any reference to online.

I believe the component is broken, as it measures OL both ways (if that means anything). It was sitting between the negative lead of the primary side filter cap and a SIP which then comes back to the gate of the power mosfet.

I only have a vague grasp of switch mode power supplies, so I can't really sort this out. But also other examples I've seen (including other Apple power adapters of this sort and generation, but not specifically this model) don't have this component. So I'm hoping someone here might be able to help???

N10V TO92-2 0.4A/50V Circuit protection element. Also called a fuse.

Huh - wow, interesting. Thanks!
So, any idea what's with the 'PS' marking on the PCB?

LOL I don't feel bad, I'm seriously wondering. Why wouldn't they mark it as F, like they did the mains fuse? PS from what I can tell is for 'Power Supply' but that's not the case here. Seems weird, no?

Fixed the link. I suspect that a poly switch (PS) was substituted out. Just a guess.
