Title: Trouble shooting problem Technics SA-590
Post by: muffenme on February 11, 2016, 05:46:38 pm
Has anyone work on the Technics SA-590?  Should this black wire, marked by red arrow, be connected to this post, marked with a blue arrow.  This unit doesn't power up and I can't find a service manual for it.

Thanks for any help.

It's hard to be sure with this picture, but the black "wire" looks to me like it does not connect at all, perhaps only used to wrap and secure nearby wiring. This is a very common practice. If so, it would be substantially stiffer than other wires in that area. Additionally, one could look underneath where it connects to the board (the trace side of the board) and confirm that there is no connection there.

+1 It's just to wrap around the now loose hanging wires.

It is Japanese and is 30 years old. Kiss it goodbye, give it a nice funeral and bury or creamate it. I am still using an American HH Scott 341 FM stereo receiver (I got in 1964) that still works perfectly after I cleaned the silver tarnish off the switch contacts.
