Hello all,
I just found this forum after trying to figure out what to do to repair my old DVD player. I bought this thing new back in 1999 for around $1200, and instead of tossing it in the trash I am trying to figure out what happened and how to fix it. It's worked flawlessly for about 15 years and then I moved it out of my equipment rack and replaced it with a high definition player. It's been stored in my bedroom since then until late last year when I decided to put it back in service. Once hooked up it worked perfectly. Fast forward to a few days ago. I wanted to do an A/B comparison between a CD and a SuperAudio CD for my son, and went to power it on but got nothing. I noticed at that time that the red standby light was not on. I unplugged it from the power strip, waited 10 seconds and plugged it back in and still nothing. The outlet was working fine, so I assumed that a power surge from a few weeks ago when we lost power for an hour may have fried something. Today I removed the cover and pulled the fuse and used a meter and it showed it was working. I found a few discussions on various forums saying that resistor 74 on the power supply board is known to go bad and many people have replaced that and got their players working again. I have no experience with electronics and am wondering if anyone could guide me to purchasing the correct resistor. The forums are saying it is resistor 74, and is 2m2. It has a four stripes, maroon (or purple), green, red, red. If anyone knows which one to get and where to purchase from I would appreciate it. Thanks
