Tube tester shenanigans
(1/1)
CoopedUp:
My tube tester works just fine with some tubes and others the needle just gets pinned in the wrong direction. Anyone know what this means? Is the tube on the inside of the tester cooked? Thanks
Cubdriver:
A bit of additional detail would help to get you an answer.

Little things:

What make/model of tube tester?

What tubes does it work fine with?

What tubes does it not work with?

Does it sometimes work and not work with different specimens of the same tube type?

CoopedUp:
It's a mercury 1000 and it works with all the diodes I have put in it and I haven't tested a whole lot else but half of everything that is different like the all American fives I think the 50c 5and 35w4 work but none of the others 12ba6 12be6 or 12av6 at least that's the way I remember it not working
floobydust:
When's the last time you calibrated it?
I would see if the tester's bias supply is working and calibrated at -5.9V, along with setting the four other cal trimpots. There are only four electrolytic caps, I would replace them given the age.
CoopedUp:
I have replaced all of the capacitors already, and I don't know when it was last calibrated but I don't see how that would affect the pin going the incorrect direction
