note that there was a recall for 54642D's within a specific serial number range and the fix was to replace the system board. You will find a 'Service Note' on the Agilent website listing the serial numbers of the faulty units. Go to Oscilloscope support and search for 54642D.
Are you able to check the serial number ? It will be on a label on the back of the case and is also accessible via the service menu - make sure they match.
