Über noob question

(1/1)

per4manz:
I am working on a Macbook Pro board and see "xw7100" listed on the boardview near the backlight driver. Boardview & schematic indicates pin 1 is "GND_LCDBKLT_SGND" and pin 2 is simply ground. However, I do not see anything on the board, not even pads.

Told you - über noob question as I am pretty sure that nothing is supposed to be there (and there isn't), but am certainly looking to learn more and understand exactly what that is or isn't.

Thanks.

Shock:
Sounds like a surface mount link between two traces. If in doubt use your multimeter and test resistance between anything directly connected to those two corresponding labels (on the schematic) and to a ground. But when you find inconsistencies double check you are looking at the right schematic or revision.

We have a repair section on the forums, if you have repair specific questions post there and include or link to the specific model, schematic and boardview etc.

ebastler:
A photo would have been helpful, but lacking that, I agree with Shock: It is probably meant for an optional SMD component to connect the two separate ground nets, either a direct link or possibly an inductor? Maybe they were not quite sure what would be required for signal/noise or EMC reasons, and ended up deciding that they could get away without the part.

per4manz:
Appreciate the answer guys. I will certainly repost in the repair section with more details.
